HOPE Literacy
"A Team of Men Changing Lives for God"
Poem by Jametrich Buckner

Patrick
Oualline - (Peer Educator, Trainer, Expeditor) To let God
be in control is a wonderful thing, but it takes work to get to
that point, and in HOPE you have a support system that allows
for that growth to happen. I have learned as much as I have
taught. I have learned to do for others out of compassion and
desire to help my fellow man. It is wonderful to watch people
learn.
Michael
Easter (HOPE Student) - HOPE has let me know that there are
people who care about me, and that God is working through this
program. Each time I come to HOPE, I can feel the spirit of God
here. I pray everyday that HOPE will stay right here, so I can
give all that I have to give to HOPE Literacy. I now understand
what words mean and I have learned how to do math, and other
things HOPE offers.
Thomas Collins
- I believe my relationship with God will greatly influence the
way I interact with students. As God cares for me, it is
important to show my students that I care about their success. I
understand that God wants the best for me, and I need to desire
the same for my students.
Rudy Snyder
(HOPE Student) - I quit school in the 8th
grade and I lost all the education I knew, but being here has
given me a different look at learning, and it’s helping in math,
reading, English, and just wanting to learn. Mrs. Lind is a very
spiritual lady, and it helps a 100% for her to say God loves you
and you’re still His child.

Joe Michael
Cisneros (HOPE Student Released 7/06) - I’m now more confident.
I can learn and be more productive now.
Anthony E. Reed
(HOPE Student) - Each day I go to a new level in learning.
Math, reading, and the Word of God…I have helped HOPE by being a
open to learn and being a part of a team of men changing lives
for God.
Tommy Coxwell
(Peer Educator released 7/06 and now undergoing cancer
treatments) - More than the educational value, the
learning spirit and teaching spirit of tutors and students alike
is so refreshing. I look forward everyday to being here. My hope
is that beyond the educational assistance I have provided, that
I have been a Christ-like example to the other men around me
showing kindness, compassion, and my love for the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Paul D.
Ellis (Peer Educator) - HOPE has helped me to learn that God
takes care of all things. He is the strength when I am weak. I
have a positive outlook on life and knowing that God blesses me
every day, I can succeed in the future by being faithful to Him.
Chris
Hudlin (Peer Educator) - There are things I was trained to teach
that I was familiar with, but still I learned more than I knew
and better ways of helping others understand something they are
having difficulty with. While being a part of HOPE these few
short months, I have received more affirmation about my future
from Mrs. Linda than the 14 months prior spent outside of HOPE.
I have been comforted and strengthened also by my peers.
George
Reichenbach (Peer Educator) - I’ve learned how to give
back and help other people. This program has helped me be a part
of the solution instead of the problem. I’ve taken my first
steps in becoming closer to God which I probably wouldn’t have
done otherwise.
Don Walker
(HOPE Student) - I have able to brush up on my math skills and
learn some of the newer terms in grammar such as predicative
nominative. I have helped HOPE by adding a smile to the
environment as well as being a teachable challenge for my
tutors. HOPE fills my spiritual gas tank.
Albert Brown
(Peer Educator) - HOPE has helped me to give to others. I’m in
the process of being a “heart” Christian instead of a “head”
Christian. My attitude is a lot better by coming to the program.
I’m not giving up on myself or more importantly my God.
Francisco
Aviles (Bilingual Peer Educator) - Learning how to help other
people is going to make me a better person and is going to help
me help my kids more, too.
Octavio Jaimes
(Bilingual student) - I have learned to write and read in
English. It helps me to keep my faith in God.
Rickey Blanco
(Bilingual student) - In HOPE, I learned how to deal with people
and read better.
Willie Nelson
(HOPE student) -
Reading
and spelling has got better. HOPE has shown me a lot about
myself. I look at people for how they are, not for how I would
like them to be. Thanks to HOPE, I know that it is not all about
me. Mrs. Linda has been a big help to us in HOPE Literacy. Thank
God.
Abimael Nunez
(Bilingual student) - My educational level has gone up more. It
gets me ready for my upcoming GED Test. I have learned to
communicate with other people. I have learned to put my trust in
God and the faith God has given me has been growing every day.
Donald Newsom
(HOPE student) - HOPE has helped me in alphabet, adding,
subtracting, reading, spelling. HOPE helped me to get an easy to
read Bible and I pray every day.
Juan Ororio
(HOPE bilingual student) - I’ve learned to respect people and
pay attention. This program has helped me learn a lot in a way
that I can understand. I feel closer to God by being in this
program. I am now able to do things that I was not able to do in
the past, such as writing, reading, and getting along with
others.
Oscar Ayala
(HOPE bilingual student) - I’ve begun to feel better about
learning. I’ve learned many things in HOPE that I did not know
such as my ABC’s, alphabetizing words, and cursive handwriting.
HOPE has helped me know that I can continue to learn because
HOPE has provided me the opportunity.
